“Barcode” Peri-buccal wrinkles

Several factors can cause these wrinkles:

• Genetics: this is sometimes the cause of these wrinkles in very young subjects, if at least one of their parents also has them
• Smoking: the action of smoking and thus overstimulating the peri-buccal muscles
• Sun exposure
• Natural skin aging, as the skin becomes thinner and more fragile  

The aesthetic medicine treatments available in the practice involve performing hyaluronic acid injections using a micro-cannula, which allows us to erase these wrinkles without pushing out the upper lip (the area between the nose and the lip’s mucous membrane) for the long term.

However, you must plan for 48 hours’ downtime, primarily due to the inflammation in this area whenever it is stimulated.

A cold sore prevention treatment is also required if the patient has a history of cold sores, so as to limit the risk of a flare-up caused by the “stress” of the injections. 

The fee charged for treating peri-buccal wrinkles varies according to the number of millilitres of hyaluronic acid injected (generally 1 to 2ml), between 350 and 700 euros.
