Marionette lines

With time, two combined phenomena promote the appearance of marionette lines, which make the face look sad:

• The skin becomes thinner and has less fatty support
• The involuntary contraction of the Depressor Anguli Oris (DAO) muscles, which drag the corners of the lips downwards

This is a very common reason why people decide to seek help from an aesthetics doctor.

The optimum treatment involves treating these lines by injecting filler products (hyaluronic acid and/or Radiesse), but also, and above all, by treating their causes:

• Loss of volume and firmness in the areas higher up, such as the cheekbones, tear trough, cheeks.
• Hypercontractility of the DAO muscles: injections into these areas can, in some cases, help to lift the corners of the lips (muscle testing).
