Marionette lines run down from the corners of the mouth to the lower edge of the jaw (oval of the face).

With time, two combined phenomena promote the appearance of marionette lines, which make the face look sad:

The skin becomes thinner and has less fatty support
The involuntary contraction of the Depressor Anguli Oris (DAO) muscles, which drag the corners of the lips downwards

What are marionette lines?
They correspond to the area running from the corners of the mouth down to the lower edge of the jaw. This is a very common concern in aesthetic medicine: the face can look sadder than it really is.
